I’m excited to be back blogging and with that I’m also looking forward to the release of a new operating system for the iPad, called iPadOS. This huge change for Apple’s tablet line will bring new features for power users and for those who’d like to use their iPads as their main computers. To make this change even more meaningful, I’ve decided to buy a Brydge Bluetooth Keyboard for my iPad Pro 12.9. Brydge has been making wireless keyboards for the iPad for several years, and they’ve managed to improve their product with each new model. The Series II model that I’ve ordered continues the ‘Mac-like’ look and feel of Apple’s pre-butterfly keyboards. The custom hinges on the keyboard and the aluminum metal finish make the iPad look like an actual MacBook sans the trackpad. Since iOS 13 and iPadOS will support mouse support, that omission may get added in a future model if Apple allows.
Upon receiving the keyboard, I fully charged it which too over 3 hours. The pairing process took several attempts to complete but worked as expected once connected. Typing on the Brydge keyboard has been a joy, with much better key travel than Apple’s butterfly switch models. Auto-correct works as well. The feel of cold aluminum under my hands contributes to the experience.
The Brydge Slimline polycarbonate case for the back of the iPad is more expensive than it should be, but it fits perfectly. The outer shell is covered in a soft silicone that feels good to the touch and shows very little fingerprints. Both hinges are covered mostly by the back case, which adds to the laptop look. These two accessories are well designed, quality products, and it shows.
