My Flip of Choice in 2025

Throughout the past few years, I've had the pleasure of owning several 'modern' flip phones.

• Motorola Razr (2019)

• Samsung Z Flip 3 (2021)

• Samsung Z Flip 5 (2023)

• Motorola Razr+ (Plus) 2023

• Motorola Razr+ (Plus) 2024

Each device was an improvement over it's predecessor.

Now in 2025, I still carry the Razr+ 2024 when I want to 'flip out' ;)

The design is simply unmatched in the world of flip smartphones.

The extra large 4 inch cover screen provides the most expansive outer display available in the category.

The 6.9 inch LTPO AMOLED inner display is just beautiful with its 165Hz refresh rate for the smoothest scrolling and responsive touch sensitivity. 

The hinge that allows the inner display to fold is smooth yet firm.

The remaining hardware specs are more than enough for daily use.

• Qualcomm SM8635 Snapdragon 8s Gen 3 

• 12gig of RAM

• 256gb of Solid State Storage

• Two 50mp rear cameras, a 32mp selfie camera

• 4000 mAh battery

Finally, the software is vintage Motorola with 'twist to open the camera' and 'chop to turn on/off the flashlight' among many other features built into Android 14 (at launch). 

The Razr+ 2024 will also allow you to run practically 'ANY' app on the cover screen, which is great for a lot of things you normally do on a smartphone while saving the battery due to the smaller display.

My case of choice is one by MALEWOLF. It's rugged, easy to hold with a built-in kickstand that has MagSafe support.

Keeping Time ...

My latest watch is the Timex Mod44. It’s quite striking in my opinion and since it's a Timex, its reasonably priced and should be reliable. The device is not a smartwatch but a regular analog watch, which is a pleasant change for those who only want the time and date in an attractive, affordable package.

My Current Smartphone EDC

I am currently using an iPhone 13 Mini as my main device. I have tried several different size smartphones but I always come back to the 13 Mini. The device is fast and powerful enough for my needs. 

IPhone SE (2020) delivers for me

 

The iPhone SE 2020

My main phone continues to be a 256gb Apple iPhone SE 2020 housed in an Apple Smart Battery Case. I chose this configuration for it’s small size, powerful A13 processor and all day battery life even under heavy loads. I’m running iOS 14.01 which has been pretty good for a brand new release. I enjoy being able to customize the HOME screens with widgets and shortcuts which had been missing in prior iOS releases.

Fond Tech Memories

Yesterday, I decided to temporarily switch from my iPhone XR to an iPhone SE (1st gen). The small SE has always been one of my favorite iPhones. The processor can still run the latest version of iOS and will be compatible with the upcoming iOS 14 when it launches in the fall.

This iPhone is covered in a Dockem Brown Synthetic Leather case and it's the 128gb unlocked model.
